Blind embossing on paper can be subtle yet striking. It also gives a traditional and quality feel to the finished article.
Embossing and debossing
Embossing and debossing are used to create a three-dimensional image or design in the paper. Embossing creates a raised image and debossing creates an indented image.
Both processes involve making a metal plate and a counter. The plate is mounted on a press and the paper is stamped between the plate and counter. Pressure pushes the stock into the plate creating the impression.
Embossing & Debossing can be used to achieve a special surface texture or to create complex relief forms, such as 3D logos or raised type.
Embossing or debossing without ink, so that the image is indented but not coloured, is called "blind embossing."
